Each spring, the Virginia Tech Police Department hosts a hot dog luncheon that benefits Special Olympics Virginia.

On average, the luncheon raises about $3,000 for Special Olympics Virginia events such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg Police Departments participate in each year.

2017 Hot Dog Luncheon

This year’s luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 16 at the Public Safety Building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each meal includes two hotdogs, chips, dessert and drink. Additional items can be purchased separately.

Anyone is invited to attend. Parking is available in designated lots.  Individuals can also ride the BT to the Coliseum stop.

The fundraiser has local sponsors each year that donate the foods and supplies needed to make the meals. Volunteers from across the university donate the individually wrapped baked goods to complete the meals. During the event, volunteers also help roll, bun, and wrap the hot dogs as they are made.

Those interested in volunteering at this year’s fundraiser or at future events should contact John Tarter.
