Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D. for Women)
The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System is a program offered to female students and employees at Virginia Tech.
The four-part course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. Participants learn self-defense tactics and techniques.
The free course is taught by Virginia Tech Police Department officers and is offered several times a year.

Registration for RAD for Women Fall 2025 is now OPEN!
During Fall 2025, we will offer two sessions:
- Session 1: Mondays 6-9pm. September 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th
- Session 2: Thursdays 6-9pm. October 30th, November 6th, 13th and 20th
All four classes must be attended. Location TBD
