Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D. for Women)

The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System is a program offered to female students and employees at Virginia Tech. 

The four-part course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. Participants learn self-defense tactics and techniques.

The free course is taught by Virginia Tech Police Department officers and is offered several times a year.

Registration for RAD for Women Summer session is now OPEN!

The Summer 2025 Session classes will be on:

  • 2-5 pm Tuesday July 1
  • 2-5pm Thursday July 10
  • 2-5pm Thursday July 17
  • 9am-12pm Thursday July 24

All four sessions must be attended. Location TBD
