Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D. for Women)

The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System is a program offered to female students and employees at Virginia Tech.

The four-part course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. Participants learn self-defense tactics and techniques.

The free course is taught by Virginia Tech Police Department officers and is offered several times a year.

Upcoming Sessions

VTPD will host two RAD classes in Fall 2019:
  • Session 1: Wednesdays 6:30-9:30pm, September 4, 11, 18, 25  (Closed at this time)
  • Session 2: Sundays  5-8pm, October 20 & 27, November 3, 10

VTPD will host Faculty Staff RAD in Summer 2019 on Thursdays May 30, June 6, June 13, and June 20 from 2-5pm. Location is TBD.
