The Virginia Tech Police Department participates in the Virginia Department of Health Child Passenger Safety program and provides the services of certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technicians.
The Virginia Tech Police Department provides security at numerous events across the campus.
Fingerprinting services for pre-employment and security clearance investigations are offered free of charge to the general public. This service is currently available at the Virginia Tech Police Department Security Center, Monday through Friday from 10am to 12pm. Before arriving at the Public Safety Building, please call the Security Center at 540-231-6411.
The Virginia Tech Police Department releases records pursuant to Code of Virginia § 2.2-3704 and § 19.2-389.
This service is available to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the university. Safe Ride operates from dusk until dawn and provides transportation or a walking escort, upon request, to persons who must cross campus during the nighttime alone.
By university regulation, Virginia Tech students are prohibited from possessing or storing weapons and/or ammunition on campus. Any student who wishes to bring a firearm and/or ammunition to campus must store the firearm and/or ammunition at the Virginia Tech Police Department. The department maintains a secure locked area within the department for firearm/ammunition storage purposes.
Request Training Demonstration
The Virginia Tech Police Department is a strong advocate of community policing. Through their nationally and internationally accredited division, the department conducts various police training demonstrations to establish stronger ties to the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech community.
