What is the Clery Act?
Crime alerts are released in accordance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, commonly known as the Clery Act. The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses, including timely warnings of crimes that may represent a serious or ongoing threat to the safety of students or employees.
- Criminal homicide: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, manslaughter by negligence
- Sexual assault: rape, fondling, incest, statutory rape
- Robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Burglary
- Motor vehicle theft
- Arson
- Hate crimes
- Intimidation
- Larceny-theft
- Simple assault
- Destruction/damage/vandalism of property
- Domestic violence
- Dating violence
- Stalking
- Weapons law violations
- Drug abuse violations
- Liquor law violations
- On-campus (anywhere)
- On-campus student housing
- Public property within campus bounds
- Public property immediately adjacent to the campus
- Noncampus buildings and property owned or controlled by the organization that are used for educational purposes and frequently used by students but not a part of the core campus, or those owned or controlled by a student organization officially recognized by the institution
